One Day Car Insurance

If there is one thing that’s true about car accidents, it’s that they are unexpected. If you normally don’t drive and only plan on driving a car for a single day, it’s easy to assume that auto insurance isn’t necessary. Think again. Auto accidents can happen anywhere, anytime. This is why you need one day car insurance.

Typical Uses For One Day Insurance Policies

One day car insurance makes sense for anyone needing to drive a car for a short distance or for a limited amount of time. This can include movers, vacationers, test drivers, or borrowers of friends vehicles. Basically, whenever you need to drive and aren’t insured, one day car insurance is a smart decision. Whether you are borrowing your friend’s truck to move some furniture or you are traveling across country and aren’t sure if your insurance covers you in foreign land, one day car insurance is for you. (Note – Short term insurance is usually available from one day up to six months.)

One Day Car Insurance

Is one day car insurance right for you?

Typical 1 day insurance policies will cover you for:

One day car insurance should only be used as a tool in saving money for very infrequent drivers. For example, if you drive your car two or three times per week, and do not put much mileage on your car, you should NOT consider one day auto insurance. There are already very cheap 6 month and 12 month policies for drivers who fit this profile. On the other hand, if you drive once every 2 or 3 months, one day car insurance could be perfect for you.

Unfortunately for some drivers, insurance companies have more restrictions for who they let purchase one day car insurance. Young, high risk drivers may find it difficult in finding an insurer who will insure them for only one day. Elderly drivers might face the same restrictions. Drivers with very poor driving records and those with DUI/DWI’s on their record can also forget about one day car insurance. If you question whether or not you will be able to obtain one day car insurance, it’s best to ask your insurance agent. Different insurance companies have different rules and regulations when it comes to insurance in the short term.

The following drivers should have no problem getting 1 day auto insurance:

  • Drivers aged 21-75 years old.
  • Drivers with no more than 6 penalty points on their license within the past 3 years.
  • Drivers who have not had their license suspended in the past 5 years.
  • Drivers who have had no more than one at-fault insurance claim in the past 3 years.

How To Get One Day Car Insurance

Now that you have decided one day car insurance is right for you, here is a step by step guide on how to get this type of insurance.

  1. Gather Up Information – Before calling your insurance company and getting one day insurance quotes, make sure you have your vehicle information, driving history information, as well as personal information all on hand. This will make the process all the more easier.
  2. Request Insurance Quotes Online – Use the form at the top of this page to get quotes from the leading insurance providers. Once you find a few companies you are interested in, request quotes for single day coverage policies from them. All of the major car insurance companies provider short term day-by-day insurance packages.
  3. Call Local Insurance Agents – You should also call a few independent local insurance agencies. Our insurance quote tool will mainly provide you with quotes from national insurance providers, you might be able to get an affordable more customized quote by staying local.
  4. Pick A Provider – After you have compared prices and read reviews, it’s time to choose an insurer. Remember – the cheapest rates don’t always provide the best quality service. Make sure you read customer testimonials and reviews before making your decision.
  5. Pay The Premium – Once you have committed to an insurance company, it’s time to make payment. For one day car insurance policies, it’s often easiest to pay online with a credit card or debit card. Alternatively, you could also pay with check, cash, or money order, but it might take a bit longer to process.
  6. Get Proof Of Insurance – After you made payment, make sure you get a proof of insurance card before you drive. If you get into an accident or get pulled over, police will need to see this in order to make sure you are insured.

Is there really such a thing such as a one day car insurance? What if I signed for it because I just really need a day for it, will I be able to reimburse maybe at least half of the money that I paid for since the cost of it is not that cheap? I read some articles about it but this site has the best about insurance coverage so far and I will suggest it to my colleagues and friends!

  2. One day car insurance is really very useful and very easy to get also…when you borrow or rent a car from your relative or friends then this policy is really very useful…it offers good benefits too…

20010 is my zip code. I don’t have a rental car, but I have a few cars, I want to rent then to some people, but I want they to get their on insurance while they use my car, to avoid issues with my insurance policy. There is likely that these renters will keep the cars from one day to few weeks, is there any insurance company that provide this service in Washington DC? Thank you.

  3. Can I get plates with one day insurance?

  4. Does anyone know if NYC offer any $1 a day insurance. I know New Jersey offers it thru medicaid but does Ny have it or anything close.

  5. This June, I want to haul a 26-foot trailer on a one-way trip of about 75 miles.
Then, in July, I want to make the reverse trip, hauling it 75 miles back home.
(This is for a summer festival.)
Is it possible to get the appropriate insurance (collision, liability, etc., whatever) for just those two days?
